Conference Sponsors Blue Square Bet Bought Out By Betfair

The Football Conference sponsors Blue Square Bet have been bought out by online betting exchange Betfair for £5 million. Blue Square has sponsored the highest level of Non-League Football since the start of the 2007–08 season.

A statement from Betfair said: “Betfair Group plc today announces that it has acquired certain assets, including the customer database, of online bookmakers Blue Square Bet for £5m.

“From today (02/04/2013), all Blue Square customers will be automatically redirected to Betfair where they can access a full suite of sports betting and gaming products and receive a promotional welcome offer.

“The acquisition is consistent with Betfair’s strategy of focusing on regulated markets and growing its sportsbook and gaming operations alongside the exchange.”

In a statement from the Conference chairman Brian Lee said: “Blue Square Bet has been a tremendous partner for six long seasons and we knew that they were likely to end their contract with us at the end of this current one.

“They have honoured each and every clause of the agreement and we would like to believe that we have responded likewise.

“It would be remiss of me not to express our grateful thanks to all their staff, who have over the years contributed to the success of the partnership.

Blue Square Bet will continue to sponsor the Football Conference National, North and South divisions under their existing titles until the end of this season.

Existing Blue Square customers have been asked to activate a new account on Betfair. They will need to enter their Blue Square account username and password at Betfair to activate and transfer accounts to Betfair, and any funds in Blue Square accounts, including unsettled bets, free bets and loyalty points, will be transferred to Betfair.
