Alfreton Town suffered opening-day misery as manager Nicky Law missed The Reds 3-1 defeat to Woking through a six-game stadium ban.
Law was charged with improper conduct by the Football Association over an incident which happened during game last season. In his place, assistant boss Russ O’Neill will take charge of Alfreton’s first six Conference games this season.
On the pitch Alfreton took the lead against the run of play through an unmarked Lee Stevenson, who drilled his low driven shot inside the right-hand post of keeper Aaron Howe. Woking grabbed a deserved equaliser in the 27th minute when Dean Morgan fire home a half-cleared corner.
Scott Rendell grabbed two second half goals to make if 3-1. The first of which came in the 60th minute and the Cards’ top scorer from last season looked suspiciously offside, Rendell scored his second soon after, taking advantage of a defensive mix-up following a poor back header.
